Yes, for several libraries you need third-party-software.
For example, surf.lib requires the programs surf and/or surfer.
But they are also available for Linux and OsX.

Even worse: it's only available for Windows: http://www.imaginary2008.de/surfer
surf.lib and probably the other libs you had mention define just interfaces to Third-Party-Software. The documentation in the library headers tell you how to install them accordingly, see also http://www.singular.uni-kl.de/Manual/la ... ng_834.htm .

Thanks. now it is installed. however there are some libraries that won't work. for example surf.lib. it looks like that there is no surfer for 64. isn't?

Is the deb file located in your current working directory? (switching to superuser could change your working directory)

Hi. Following the instructions I get stuck on

/usr/local# dpkg -i Singular-core_3.1.5-1_x86_64.deb
dpkg: error processing Singular-core_3.1.5-1_x86_64.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
Singular-core_3.1.5-1_x86_64.deb
