Topic review - Can't install on Mac OS X

I'm required to isntall this program for some university course and I just can't get it to work. I did the whole "sudo mkdir" and "sudo chmod" in /usr/local but whenever I try to (sudo) gzip the files I just get this:

Singular/: Can't update time for Singular: Operation not permitted
Singular/3-1-2/: Can't create 'Singular/3-1-2': Permission denied
Singular/3-1-2/INSTALL: Failed to create dir 'Singular/3-1-2': No such file or directoryCan't create 'Singular/3-1-2/INSTALL': No such file or directory etc.

Any ideas?
