Following these steps, you can obtain the latest version:

sudo wget http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/%7emsch ... Y-Singular
sudo apt-key add RPM-GPG-KEY-Singular
sudo wget http://www.mathematik.uni-kl.de/%7emsch ... elease.deb
sudo dpkg -i Singular-release.deb
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install singular-icons singular-help

Recently I noticed that the Singular version in the Ubuntu repositories is very old (3-0-4, November 2007), whereas the latest stable version available on Singular website is 3-1-3. Can something be done about it? Who maintains the versions in Ubuntu repos? Is there any other way to have updated Singular (to install using deb's).
