Post subject:  unknown link type MPfile

Hi,

I'm looking for some advice on how to resolve an I/O error in the latest version of Singular. The administrator of the UCLA math department cluster kindly installed Singular 3-1-1 for me last week. However, upon trying to open an MPfile link I receive the error

> link l = "MPfile: ./temp.mp";
// ** Found unknown link type: MPfile
// ** Use default link type: ASCII

The system information and Singular version follows (some snips):

Linux version 2.6.31.14-0.1-default (gcc version 4.4.1 [gcc-4_4-branch revision 150839] (SUSE Linux) )

Singular for x86_64-Linux version 3-1-1 (3110-2010030317) Mar 3 2010 17:31:45
with
factory(@(#) factoryVersion = 3.1.1),libfac(3.1.1,Feb 2010),
GMP(4.2),NTL(5.5.2),64bit,unknown fgets method,Plural,DBM,
dynamic modules,dynamic p_Procs,OM_CHECK=0,OM_TRACK=0,random=1285961800
CC= gcc -O3 -w -fomit-frame-pointer -pipe -DNDEBUG -DOM_NDEBUG -Dx86_64_Linux -DHAVE_CONFIG_H,
CXX= g++ -O3 -w -fomit-frame-pointer --no-rtti -pipe -DNDEBUG -DOM_NDEBUG -Dx86_64_Linux -DHAVE_CONFIG_H (4.3.4)

Is this simply a matter of some appropriate flag not being set during installation? (I believe it was installed from the RPM, there are further details on the installation method which I am unable to link to here due to forum restrictions! I am happy to provide the link via email: daniel fullstop murfet at gmail dot com).

It would be greatly appreciated if someone could suggest a course of action, which I might then forward to the IT staff (who have no prior experience with Singular).

Thanks,

Daniel.

The MP library is not 64bit clean.
Therefore all 64bit versions of Singular do not contain MPtcp and MPfile.
That can be tested by:
system("with","MP")
which returns 0 for the 64bit versions.
If you really need MP try the 32bit version of Singular.
